Adding square footage to your home can be one of the best ways to add value and gain extra living space without moving. Several options for finishing existing space are basement or attic spaces, garages or sunrooms, or adding a bump out or large addition to your existing footprint.
Adding on to your homes existing footprint is sometimes the only option to get the extra space you are looking for. Typically the most involved way to add square footage, this requires some type of footing and foundation or slab and partially demolishing and tying into the existing structure. The framing, roofing, siding and flooring all have to match up with the existing materials. Increased footprint additions can range from small bump outs to add a bathroom or bedroom, up to sometimes doubling or tripling the existing square footage.
Oftentimes one of the least expensive ways to add square footage to your home, adding one or multiple dormers to your existing roof structure can increase headroom enough for added finished livings space in your attic area. Reach out to see if this may be an option for you!
Although basements are less popular in our region, some houses with basements can finish these areas for additional living space if there is adequate head room.
